About the game
What you do in a play session
Vélodrome is a fast‑paced two‑player duel (with an optional three‑player variant) that puts each participant in charge of a cyclist racing on a two‑lap track. Every player controls a 24‑card deck, split among power cards, bad‑luck cards, antidotes and quadrant cards. The 14 power cards form the strategic core; three of them offer two possible values, letting you pick the one that best fits the current situation. Six bad‑luck cards can be slapped onto your opponent to slow them down, while three antidote cards act as quick cures, canceling those negative effects – a nod to the classic 1000 Bornes. The four quadrant cards are mandatory: one must be played in each quarter of the race, ensuring a steady progression.
On your turn you add the value of your last played card to the value of your opponent's last played card; the sum tells you how many spaces your rider moves forward. This blend of hand management, value selection and timing of bad‑luck cards creates constant tension. The first rider to finish the two‑lap circuit wins. A typical game lasts about 30 minutes, though it can stretch a bit if the group enjoys dissecting each move. While BGG doesn’t list a weight, the 4.4 rating shows players like the mix of speed and light strategy. Perfect for fans of quick, sport‑themed games who enjoy tactical choices without overwhelming complexity.
