Game Objective
In Drag Slay, you are behind the scenes at AURA, the city’s most iconic show venue. The goal is to be the most agile person in the Quick Drag challenge, gathering the necessary components to assemble your Drags before the other competitors to get on stage.
Setup
The layout varies depending on the chosen game mode:
Standard Mode
- Shuffle all Item Cards and deal 3 to each player with the Side A face up, open on the table.
- Divide the remaining items into 4 piles in the center of the table: 2 piles with Side A up and 2 piles with Side B up.
- Shuffle all Drag Cards and place them in 3 central piles on the table, with the side that shows the required items face up.
Family Drag Mode
- Follow the normal setup, but instead of 3 central Drag piles, deal 5 Drags to each player. These cards form your Family and only you can complete them.
- The Item Cards are arranged in the 4 central piles as in the standard mode.
Diversity Mode
- Form Drag piles separated by the different families.
- Shuffle the Item Cards and deal 5 to each player.
- Set up a market in the center of the table with 5 items face up with the white side up.
- The remaining items form the purchase pile, with the orange side up.
- Reserve a spot for the discard piles.
Game Flow
The game has different dynamics depending on the chosen mode:
Standard Mode and Family Mode
The game runs simultaneously and frenetically. Players perform the Item Swap: you return one of your cards to any central pile and take another from a different pile. The goal is to gather the three items needed to complete one of the top Drags in the piles.
Important: When returning the card, it must have the correct side face up. You must use only the active side to complete your Drags.
Diversity Mode
This mode follows a calmer flow with defined turns. The player who most recently saw a drag show starts. In this mode, only the white side of the Item Cards is valid (the orange side acts as the back).
Actions and How to Play
Completing a Drag
- Standard/Family: As soon as you get the correct items, shout “SLAY!” and reveal the Drag. Everyone stops to confirm the assembly. After confirmation, all players must flip their Item Cards, changing the active side (from A to B or vice‑versa).
- Tie in the Shout: If two players shout SLAY! at the same time, the first to shout “QUEEN!” immediately after has the right to complete the Drag first.
- Diversity Mode: To assemble the Drag, the player must have the 3 items of the Drag on top of one of the families, with at least 2 items matching the color of the family of the assembled Drag. The player must shout SLAY!, discard the used items, shuffle the discard into the Purchase Pile, and draw 3 items from the market. Completing more than one Drag in a row is allowed if the necessary items are available.
Diversity Mode Actions (One per Turn)
- Buy from Market: Discard 1 card to buy an item from the market and then replenish the market.
- Discard Swap: Swap 1 card with the top of the discard.
- Clear Market: Discard 2 cards to clear all items from the market, replace them, and draw 2 cards.
- Move Drag: Discard 3 cards to take a Drag from the top (TOP) of a family and place it at the bottom (Bottom) of the pile. Then draw 3 cards.
- Player Swap: Swap 3 cards with a player of your choice.
End of Game and Scoring
Standard Mode
The game ends when a player completes:
- 5 Drags from different families; OR
- 3 Drags from the same family.
Family Drag Mode
The game ends when a player completes their 5 Drags from their own family.
Diversity Mode
The game ends when a player assembles the number of Drags from different families based on the number of players:
- 2 Players: 3 families.
- 4 Players: 4 families.
- 5 to 6 Players: 5 families.
The game also ends if one of the family piles runs out. In that case, the winner is the one with the greatest family diversity. If tied, the winner is the one with the most Drags assembled. If still tied, victory is shared or decided in a lip sync duel.
Tips for Winning
- In Standard Mode, pay attention to the change of the active side (A - B) after each SLAY!, as this alters which items you can use to complete your assemblies.
- In Diversity Mode, strategically manage your discards to clear the market or move unwanted Drags to the bottom of the pile, ensuring you achieve the necessary family diversity for victory.
