About the game

What you do in a play session

Dungeon Lords: Happy Anniversary is a celebratory box that bundles the original Dungeon Lords game, the Festival Season expansion, food‑token stickers, metal coins, a "Dungeon Set‑up" mini‑expansion, and a few extra goodies. You step into the shoes of an evil Dungeon Lord aiming to build the most feared lair ever. Each round, players receive a hand of cards and decide where to place their imp workers. The cards grant access to three different action spaces – gold mining, monster hiring, trap buying, and more – each space offering distinct effects depending on the choice. After a card is used, two others become locked for the next round, demanding careful planning.

The game spans two "game years," each divided into four seasons (turns). At the start of each season, the heroes and events that will appear in the upcoming season are revealed, letting you prepare. After the first season, heroes are allocated to players based on their evil level; heroes range from mighty paladins to sneaky thieves, each with powers that require strategic responses. At the end of each year, heroes storm the dungeons for the final showdown, and scoring is based on built rooms, hired monsters, and captured heroes.

Festival Season adds a fifth season – the Festival – giving you more time to develop your dungeon, but also allowing adventurers to assemble larger parties. New monsters, rooms, traps, and nasty spells join the mix, as do two paladins per year who can punish up to two evil players. The expansion also introduces alternate action options, such as pushing other players toward evil, investing in tunnel repairs instead of new digs, and more. And, of course, personal pets for your lord add a final touch of villainous flair. With mechanics like Action Queue, Hand Management, Simultaneous Action Selection, Tile Placement, and Worker Placement, the game delivers a deep, strategic yet humor‑laden experience.
