Game Objective

In Feya's Swamp, you control a clan of swamp dwellers competing to become the most prosperous group. To win, you must:

  • Adapt to the environment
  • Find the best places to fish and settle
  • Form trade partnerships
  • Explore abandoned temples to awaken powerful gods

The game lasts 4 rounds. The player with the most victory points (VP) at the end wins.

Preparation (Setup)

Common Area

  1. Place the Swamp board in the center (use the correct side for the number of players).
  2. Select 2 random Spirits and place them on the corresponding numbered spaces.
  3. Position the Round board next to the main board.
  4. Shuffle and deal 6 Fish cards face down on the Round board.
  5. Select 2 random Scoring cards and place them face up.
  6. Prepare the per-round Bonus tokens (one per player each round).
  7. Place a Spirit on each round space on the Round board.
  8. Display 3 Race cards face up.
  9. Position the Temple tokens according to the number of players.
  10. Display 7 Guide cards face up.
  11. Place neutral workers (Axolotls), the Island Totem, and the remaining Spirits in their designated spaces.
  12. Create a common supply with fish, gold, and mana gems.

Personal Area

  1. Choose a Clan board (normal or advanced).
  2. Take 20 Settlement tokens of your color and place them on the board.
  3. Position 3 workers in your supply and 2 in the designated spaces.
  4. Place 3 boats on the corresponding Settlement spaces.
  5. Position your Navigation token on your board's track.
  6. Place your Turn Order token on the Round board.
  7. Take 3 Objective tokens and place them in your supply.
  8. Position your Scoring marker at 0 VP on the main board.
  9. Your supply starts with: 20 gold, 1 mana gem, 3 fish, and 1 Reference card.

Game Flow

Each game has 4 rounds, each with 3 phases:

I. Income Phase

At the start of each round, players receive resources according to:

  • Sun icons on the Clan board (if the corresponding Settlement has been built).
  • Abilities of the active Guide card.

In the first round, you only receive 1 mana gem from the starting Settlement.

II. Turns Phase

In initiative order (from lowest to highest), players perform one action per turn:

  • Boat Actions (require placing a worker on spaces with a boat symbol).
  • Land Actions (require placing a worker on spaces with a ground symbol).
  • Pass (ends your participation in the round).

During your turn, you can also:

  • Trade 2 mana gems for 1 neutral worker (Axolotl).
  • Trade 1 worker (any) for 1 mana gem.

III. Maintenance Phase

At the end of the round (after everyone has passed):

  1. Collect all workers on the board.
  2. Return neutral workers to the common supply.
  3. Flip the current round's Fish card.
  4. Place 1 fish on each unselected Guide card.
  5. Set the new turn order based on the initiatives of the new Guide cards.

Skip this phase after the 4th round.

Actions and How to Play

Boat Actions

Performed by placing a worker on spaces with a boat symbol. Each boat can move up to the limit of the Navigation Track (Guide card + Clan track) and must perform the action at the destination:

  • Fish: Move to spaces with fish from the current round and collect fish according to your capacity (icons on the board or Guide card).
  • Build Settlement: Move to spaces adjacent to islands and pay the cost (base gold + 3 per Spirit on the island). Place the Settlement token and gain immediate bonuses, if any.
  • Navigate: Move to any free space (the only action that does not require another action). On 3-4 player maps, gain +2 movement spaces.
  • Trade: Move to spaces adjacent to Settlements and place fish to gain gold (or VP, if it's your clan's).

Land Actions

Performed by placing a worker on spaces with a ground symbol:

  • Improve Navigation: Advance 1 space on your board's track and gain immediate VP.
  • Celebrate: Choose an island to gain VP for fish in Settlements (1 VP per fish). All players gain VP for fish in their own Settlements.
  • Add Spirit Worship: Place a new Spirit on the board following placement rules and move the Totem to it.

Pass

When passing:

  1. Take a Bonus token from the current round.
  2. Gain bonuses from your Guide card (if any).
  3. Return your Guide card and take a new one for the next round.
  4. If you are the last to pass, place the round's Spirit on the board.

End of Game and Scoring

After the 4th round, calculate final VP:

  1. Settlements per Island: Number of your Settlements x Number of Spirits on the island.
  2. Scoring Cards: Sum the VP from the 2 active cards.
  3. Fish: 1 VP per fish remaining in your Settlements.
  4. Mana: 1 VP per mana gem in your supply.
  5. Gold: 1 VP for every 10 gold in your supply.

The player with the most VP wins. In case of a tie, players share the victory.

Tips for Winning

  • Prioritize Guide cards with abilities that complement your strategy (e.g., Fisherman to focus on fish, Builder for rapid expansion).
  • Use the Island Totem: Settlements on islands with the Totem give gold bonuses in trade and 3 extra VP in celebrations.
  • Manage workers: Trade mana gems for Axolotls when needed and don't waste land actions.
