Get your best gardener hat ready, because the city of Florimelle is in need of a makeover! In Fountains, you step into the role of a master fountain builder, tasked with transforming plazas and gardens into true aquatic masterpieces. The goal is simple yet requires expert planning: you must create the most stunning fountain the world has ever seen, ensuring water flows perfectly through all levels. If you forget to connect a level or leave a spout far from the path, you'll end up with 'dead zones' that won't score a single point.
The gameplay revolves around a dynamic 'take-and-make' system. On your turn, you move a colored marker (green, blue, or white) around the central board, skipping occupied spaces to land on an empty one. Once you land, you take the tile next to it and add it to your personal fountain. The fun lies in the verticality: you can expand your fountain sideways or upwards, creating beautiful layers. But watch out! To score, water must flow from the spout at the highest level through all lower levels.
Beyond construction pieces, there are special resources like lilypads, pools, and colorful fish. The game also features a great interaction element: when someone lands on a specific colored space, everyone scores points based on the items linked to that color. It's the kind of game where, while you're busy building your masterpiece, you're also helping your opponents! In the end, fish set bonuses and accumulated coins can be the deciding factor in crowning you the greatest builder in Florimelle. It's an elegant, fast-paced, and visually satisfying game for anyone who loves optimizing patterns.
