RECOMMENDED

Gruntz is that game you open during a work break for a quick match and suddenly you're in a best-of-three showdown. Perfect for tactical duel lovers who enjoy simple rules with punchy decisions. The magnetic vehicle customization is brilliant - feels like a toy but becomes a lethal weapon. Just don't expect depth of a complex wargame: the fun here is in the speed and those 'gotcha!' moves that flip the game instantly.

About the game

What you do in a play session

Gruntz is a fast-paced tactical duel where you command a miniaturized army with simple rules but deep decisions. Your soldiers (the Gruntz), tanks, and planes follow that classic rock-paper-scissors relationship - each unit has its predators and counters. The kicker? Only infantry can capture control points at the map's center, so you'll need to choose between protecting your grunts or risking attacks with more powerful units. Planes are relentless destroyers, but a single well-placed anti-aircraft gun can turn the tide. And there's more: tanks and trucks can be customized with magnetic attachments - slap on an extra cannon to become a combat monster or a cargo hold to transport troops quickly. All this in 10-30 minute matches where every move counts and the advantage can shift with one clever play. First to 3 control points wins, so ready your strategies and... let's battle!

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you buy

7 questions
How long does a game take?
10-30 minutes - perfect for a quick match during breaks or multiple rematches in one evening.
Does it need a lot of table space?
The cloth board is compact (fits on a small table) and even folds easily to carry in a backpack.
Is it hard to learn?
Not at all! Rules are simple (weight 2.16/5 on BGG), but tactical decisions have layers - easy to learn, hard to master.
Is there in-game text? Do I need to know English?
Almost no text - just some easy-to-memorize icons. Zero issues playing without English knowledge.
Is it good for people who don't like complex wargames?
Absolutely! It's a 'light' wargame with abstract game vibes. If you enjoy games like Hive or The Duke, you'll dig this.
How many different games can you play before it feels repetitive?
Variety comes from piece combinations and strategies - should give you 15-20 good matches before feeling like you've seen it all.
Do you need to assemble or paint miniatures?
None of that! Pieces come ready to play right out of the box - just snap the magnetic attachments onto vehicles.
