Step by step

1. Game Objective

In Happy Hour, you and your coworkers are in the midst of a company crisis, where layoffs and facility changes have created a heavy atmosphere. The only way to advance your career or keep your job is by eliminating colleagues, and the perfect opportunity arises at the corner bar, where generous meal vouchers are spent on feasting.

The goal is to make the most of the bar's flavors and stay alive. The player who accumulates the most victory points at the end of the game, and whose character has not "kicked the bucket," will be the winner.

2. Setup

  1. Each player takes an Individual Board. Any remaining boards are returned to the box.
  2. Place the Central Board in the center of the table (optional).
  3. Position one Marker and one Clip on each of the tracks, over the organ icons, on the individual boards and on the central board (optional). Return any remaining markers and clips to the box.
  4. Shuffle the deck of 6 Invitation cards (employees) and place it face down.
  5. Line up the 4 Medicine cards face up on the table.
  6. Each player receives 3 Pills, which should be placed in the designated space on their individual boards.
  7. Each player receives 1 Salad Card. Any remaining cards are returned to the box.
  8. Shuffle the 84 Bar Cards. Deal five cards to each player. The rest form the draw pile.
  9. To determine the current player for the first round, reveal the last card from the invitation pile. The player controlling the employee illustrated on that card will be the first to invite.
  10. The invited player for the first round will be the employee at the top of the invitation pile.
  11. Return the invitation pile to its proper place.

3. Game Flow

The game progresses in rounds, where one employee invites another to a Happy Hour. The inviter is always the current player, and the invitee is the employee revealed on an invitation card. The invitee of one round becomes the inviter of the next round.

If the cards in the invitation pile run out before the game ends, all employees are reshuffled to form a new pile. The last card is revealed to determine the new current inviter.

4. Actions and How to Play

On their turn, the current player (the inviter) performs the following actions:

  1. Reveals an invitee: Takes the top card from the invitation pile and places it face up on top of the invitee pile. This is the employee who will be invited.
  2. Stages the invitation: The inviter addresses the chosen invitee, using their charm to call them to a Happy Hour.
  3. Plays Bar cards on the table: The inviter can play up to:
    • 1 Main Course, followed or not by
    • 1 Drink and/or
    • 1 Dessert,
    • + as many Sides as desired, as long as they are not repeated.
  4. Awaits the invitee's response: The invitee can respond to the invitation with one of the following actions:
    • Let's go: The invitee accepts the meal exactly as suggested and adds nothing.
    • Bring more, that's not enough: The invitee completes the meal with delicacies the inviter left out and/or adds as many Sides as desired. Restrictions: there can only be one Main Course, one Drink, and one Dessert (unless otherwise indicated), and there cannot be two Sides with the same name on the table.
    • I'm good: The invitee plays a Salad to forgo the solid food served, avoiding damage from solid foods, but also not gaining victory points from the food. Those who choose Salad only receive victory points and damage from the Drink on the table. Attention: Pizza and any dish with Bacon as a Side are irresistible and immune to Salad.
    • I'm fine: The invitee plays a Water to forgo the Drink served. If they do this, they will receive points and damage from the food on the table, but not from the Drink. It is possible to use Water and Salad in the same round to forgo all points and damage.
    • Wait, there's always room for one more: The invitee can, along with one of the previous actions, play the card Can I Call a Friend? and invite another coworker. The new invitee also responds to the invitation. All involved will suffer the consequences of the feast.
    • Only if it's for everyone: If there is not yet a Main Course on the table, the invitee can play a Pizza and include all employees in the banquet. Pizza is irresistible and immune to Salad. New invitees can add Sides, Dessert, and Drink.

Marking Score and Damage

After the invitees' responses, all involved in the feast (inviter, invitee, and other colleagues who joined the party):

  • Will mark victory points and damage suffered.
  • Victory points are marked by advancing the marker on the corresponding score track on their individual board.
  • Damage is taken on the Heart, Liver, Stomach, and ✱* (any organ of choice) organs.
  • To know how many points and damage to add, count the corresponding values of all cards played on the table.
  • Bonus: If a happy hour includes a main course or a portion, along with a side, a drink, and a dessert, all participants gain an extra point.
  • The central board can be used to facilitate the sum of points and damage.

Medicines

Before updating your individual board, you can take a Medicine to minimize damage to an organ. You have three Pills on your board and four different Medicines arranged on the table. To take a Medicine, move a Pill from your board to the desired Medicine card and apply its effects (including side effects).

  • Vomitol: Resets victory points and prevents all damage from the current meal. Side effect: 1 damage to the Stomach.
  • Figonovon: Prevents all damage to the Liver from the current meal. Side effect: 2 damage to the Stomach.
  • Buscazia: Prevents all damage to the Heart from the current meal. No side effects.
  • Broxantol: Prevents all damage to the Stomach from the current meal. Side effect: 1 damage to the Heart.

You can use one, two, or all three Pills in a single round, assigning them to Medicines as desired. You only have three Pills to spend throughout the entire game.

Replenish Hand

Cards played on the table go to the discard pile. All players who played cards during the round draw new Bar cards until they have six (6) cards in hand again.

Special Cards

  • Water: Forgoes all Drink served, scores no victory points and no damage from Drinks. Does not affect solid foods served. Can be used by the invitee or at the end of the meal.
  • Salad: Forgoes all solid food served (Main Course, Dessert, and/or Sides), scores no victory points and no damage from solid foods. Does not affect Drinks served. Cannot be used if Bacon is served. If Pizza is served, Salad only prevents damage from Sides and Dessert, never from Pizza.
  • Bacon: Is a Side that makes all foods in a meal it is part of irresistible. Prevents the use of Salad for food, but does not affect Drinks.
  • Pizza: Is an irresistible Main Course that invites all players to the Happy Hour. Cannot be played if there is already a Main Course on the table. If Salad is used, it only prevents damage from Sides and Dessert, never from Pizza.
  • Portions (Calabresa and Pastel): Are of the Portion category. If there is a Portion in the meal, another invitee can use an identical Portion to force all players to participate in the Happy Hour. Follows Main Course rules.
  • Can I Call a Friend?: The invitee can use this card to invite another player to participate in the meal.

5. End of Game and Scoring

The Happy Hour game ends when one of the following conditions is met:

  • The draw pile runs out of cards: This means the bar has closed its doors. The game ends immediately.
  • An employee dies: If a player loses the ✱* organ or three any organs (reaching 10 damage in each), their character dies. In this case, the end of the game is triggered, but the game continues until the invitation round ends, meaning until the last character from the invitee pile is invited.
    • If the next inviter is the deceased and there is only one card in the invitee pile, the game ends.
    • If there is more than one card, flip the top card of the invitee pile and the revealed character will be the inviter. The game continues until the last character from the invitee pile is invited.

Organ Loss

When damage to an organ reaches 10, it suffers irreversible deterioration. If the damaged organ is not the ✱*, the player remains in the game and the failed organ will no longer suffer damage. Upon losing an organ, you can immediately discard as many cards from your hand as you wish and draw new ones up to the maximum limit of six (6). If an already lost organ suffers damage again, the damage is directed to the ✱*.

Victory Condition

Once the game ends, the player who has accumulated the most victory points will be the winner. However, you cannot be crowned winner if your character has died.
