Hippo is a quick, playful game that puts you in the water with a friendly hippopotamus and his colorful floats. The goal is to clear all your floats by placing them in the numbered lanes of Mr. Hippo’s pool. Each turn you roll three dice and decide whether to use each value separately or add them together. Landing a 7 lets you play again, which can swing the game in your favor. The lanes run from 1 to 12, but lane 7 is special—Mr. Hippo’s little basin where placing a float grants a rotation bonus. When a lane is full, you can kick out the float already there and reclaim it, but that might give your opponent an advantage if they play the same lane again. The board is modular, meaning the lanes can be rearranged each game, ensuring no play is predictable. The game is ideal for 2 to 4 players, lasts about 15 to 20 minutes, and is easy to learn but offers tense moments when the hippo is on the brink. If you enjoy dice games that combine quick strategy with a dash of humor, Hippo will make you laugh and compete at the same time.
