About the game
What you do in a play session
Hordes is a miniatures combat game that can be viewed both as a robust expansion to Warmachine and as a standalone system, sharing the same Iron Kingdoms RPG setting. Fully compatible with Warmachine, it introduces a wilder, more tribal side to the universe, swapping steam and technology for a more primitive and mystical feel. Instead of steam-powered Warjacks, Hordes features imposing Warbeasts, colossal creatures that serve as living war machines. Warmachine's Warcasters are replaced by Warlocks, who draw their raw power and fury directly from these creatures to cast spells and lead their armies. The game introduces four brand-new factions with very distinct characteristics: the hardy Trollblood, the warrior Skorne, the shadowy Legion of Everblight, and the enigmatic Circle Orboros. Each of these factions boasts a unique playstyle, adding impressive tactical depth and strategic variety to the battlefield. If you enjoy tactical miniatures combat and a fantasy universe with a wilder touch, Hordes is an excellent choice, expanding the world of Immoren in a truly original way.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you buy
Is Hordes an expansion or a standalone game?
It can be both! Hordes functions as a complete standalone game, but it's also 100% compatible with Warmachine, allowing you to mix factions and create epic battles between the two systems.
What's the main difference between Hordes and Warmachine?
The biggest difference lies in the power source and armies. Warmachine focuses on steam-powered Warjacks and Warcasters. Hordes, on the other hand, uses Warbeasts, colossal beasts, and Warlocks who channel the fury of these creatures. The theme is also more tribal and wild.
How many players can participate and how long does a game take?
Hordes is designed for 2 to 8 players, with game time usually around 60 minutes, but it can vary depending on the number of participants and the size of the battle.
Is it a complex game for beginners?
Hordes is considered a medium-heavy game (3.3175/5 on BGG), which means it has a learning curve. The rules are detailed and the strategy is deep, so be prepared to dedicate some time to mastering the system.
What factions are available in Hordes?
Hordes introduces four main factions: Trollblood, Skorne, Legion of Everblight, and Circle Orboros. Each of them has a very distinct playstyle and aesthetic, ensuring plenty of tactical variety.
Do I need Warmachine to play Hordes?
No, Hordes is a complete game on its own and does not require you to own Warmachine. However, if you already own Warmachine, the compatibility between the systems opens up an even wider range of strategic possibilities.
