About the game
What you do in a play session
IOTA is the card game that blends strategy, logic, and a dash of luck on a grid board. The deck contains 64 standard cards, each with a color, shape, and number – four options for each attribute – plus two wild cards that can replace any card for extra fun. At the start, each player receives four cards in hand and a face‑up “starter” card forms the grid’s base. The remaining cards form the draw pile.
On your turn, you may place one to four cards in the same line of the grid, but they must follow the pattern rule: in each line of 2, 3, or 4 cards, the attributes must be all the same or all different. This means you have to look closely at each color, shape, and number and think about how everything fits. If the line ends up with four cards, it becomes a “lot” and you earn a score bonus – everything you scored that turn doubles. If you play four cards at once, the score doubles again. And if the line you complete is four cards long, you get an extra bonus. This “double” mechanic makes every play count, so the strategy of placing cards that maximize bonuses is key.
Scoring is calculated by adding the face values of cards in all lines you created or extended that turn. If a card is in two lines, it counts twice. When the draw pile runs out and someone plays the last card, the final round receives a double‑points bonus. The game ends there, and the highest score wins.
IOTA is quick – about 30 minutes for 2 to 4 players – and requires constant attention to patterns. It’s perfect for those who enjoy card games that demand spatial and strategic thinking without the complexity of longer board games. If you love logic challenges and want something that fits nicely into a chat break, IOTA is a great pick.
