About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready to relive one of the most intense moments of World War II with Königsberg: The Soviet Attack on East Prussia, 1945. This tabletop wargame places you in command of Soviet forces in their offensive against the German Army Group Center in January 1945, or in the shoes of the German defenders trying to hold back the relentless advance. The game simulates the 2nd and 3rd Belorussian Fronts in their push into East Prussia, with a game scale representing 2 days per turn, 8-kilometer hexes, and units ranging from Kampfgruppe to Corps. Uncertainty is a key element, as each corps and army has an activation chit, and the limited number of activations per turn means you never know exactly when your formations will move or fight. The Soviet offensive is mobile but can easily outpace its infantry and HQs, while random events can ground the Soviet Air Force or even have Stalin intervene, delaying some formations. For the Germans, every move is crucial to blocking the Soviets from vital cities like Elbing and Königsberg, but fuel shortages can affect motorized units or the withdrawal of the Gross Deutchland can compromise critical defenses. Will you be able to replicate the epic defense of Königsberg, or will the Soviet onslaught prevail?
