Lepidoptery is a two-player card game that blends climbing, shedding, and pattern building on a 5x6 grid board. The goal is to line up four cards of the same color on the board or empty your deck. Each turn starts with selecting a card combination—pair, trio, or sequence—and then you place a token in the column that matches the type of combination played. Unlike many climbing and shedding games, you can stack combinations of different types, such as placing a set over a single card, adding tactical flexibility. As columns fill, the combination types already used become blocked, and previously filled columns are cleared, allowing you to replan your moves. Hand management mechanics force you to decide when to hold cards for future combos or discard them to gain tokens. Climbing occurs when you build ascending columns of cards, while pattern building comes into play when you align four tokens of the same color. The game lasts 20 to 30 minutes, perfect for fans of quick, highly interactive two-player sessions. The mix of mechanics makes each game unique, demanding constant attention to card flow and column blocking. If you enjoy card games that require strategic thinking and love two-player challenges, Lepidoptery could be your next favorite.
