About the game

What you do in a play session

Machina Arcana is a cooperative cosmic horror experience with a steampunk twist. You're explorers investigating an underground complex full of Lovecraftian horrors — yes, there are creatures that'll make you question your sanity. The game uses a chapter-based scenario system, each with its own narrative and challenges. Every session, you'll loot gear, use the environment to your advantage (or against the monsters), and try to survive until the final showdown. Progression is organic: your characters improve, but so do the threats. And beware: taking too long can be deadly. The game scales naturally for 1-4 players, with action points, dice rolling, and grid movement mechanics that ensure replayability. Prepare for screams, desperate alliances, and — most likely — gruesome deaths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you buy

5 questions
Can it be played solo?
Yes! And it works great, with challenges balanced for a lone hero facing the horrors alone.
Does it require translation?
Unfortunately yes — the game has LOTS of English text. The community has created fan translations, so worth researching.
What's the best player count?
3-4 players balances the challenge well, but the game scales smoothly even for solo. Just prepare to suffer together.
Is it like Arkham Horror?
Similarities exist (Lovecraftian horror, coop), but it's more tactical and less narrative. Think Arkham with more grid-based combat.
Worth it for non-Lovecraft fans?
The atmosphere rocks even without Mythos knowledge, but fans will spot more details. The horror is universal!
