About the game
What you do in a play session
Maguro Zukushi is a sushi-themed card game that brings the excitement of mahjong into two‑player duels. At the start, each player receives eleven cards: five are placed face down as your “prep,” and the rest are available for discarding. The goal is to build a winning hand using sets of three identical cards or three pairs, combining your prep with your opponent’s discards. The twist is that, like mahjong, you cannot win with a discard you’ve already thrown away. Scoring depends on the type of sushi used in your sets: some yield higher points than others, so you can aim for a high‑value combo or a lower‑scoring one that the opponent is more likely to discard. A game lasts about 20 minutes and requires strategic focus to decide when to discard and when to hold cards that could form a powerful set. If you enjoy card games that blend speed, strategy, and a touch of Japanese culture, Maguro Zukushi offers tense, fun duels for two players.
