About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready to set sail in Man O' War, a 1993 classic that throws you into epic naval battles in the Warhammer universe! Here, you take on the role of an admiral, commanding fleets of warships – from agile squadrons of Ships of the Line to imposing Men O' War and Independents, each with their own damage characteristics and hit points. The fun begins by choosing your favorite race from the Warhammer world, such as Empire, Bretonnian, Dwarf, High Elf, Dark Elf, or Orc, each bringing unique abilities and weapons to the table.
Each turn in Man O' War is a strategic dance. First, dice are rolled to determine initiative and wind direction, which can change everything! Then comes the magic phase, where your wizards try to turn the tide with powerful spells (and opponents try to dispel them, of course!). Next, the battle phase is where the action heats up: players alternate movements and attacks, activating their ships one by one until all have acted. The tension is palpable with every dice roll, whether to hit an enemy mast or defend your hull from a devastating attack. The game continues until one side is destroyed, surrenders, or flees, or for a predetermined time.
The base game already came packed with war galley miniatures and detailed rules for the initial six races, even including campaigns and shoreforts. And if that wasn't enough, two expansions, 'Plaguefleet' and 'Sea of Blood,' added even more content, doubling the number of fleets with Chaos, Skaven, Chaos Dwarfs, and introducing sea monsters, airpower, and new fleets like the Norse and even the Undead in issues of Citadel Journal. Man O' War is a true treasure for those who enjoy wargames with miniatures, offering incredible tactical depth and a collectible experience that remains alive thanks to the passion of fans.
