About the game
What you do in a play session
Get ready for a whirlwind of cards and matchsticks in Matchstick Tycoon! If you enjoy card games where a single move can flip the table, you've found your new 20-minute obsession. The goal is straightforward but tricky: be the first player to ditch all your cards and your matchsticks. Everyone starts with one matchstick and a hand of cards ranging from 0 to 8, then jumping to A through F (yes, the values scale in a unique way!).
The gameplay follows a classic 'can you beat it?' flow. The lead player plays one or more cards of a certain strength, and every other player must either match the number of cards with a higher value or pass. Careful though—passing means you must take a matchstick from the reserve! These matchsticks are your best friend and your worst enemy. You can use them to modify your cards' values in clever ways. Want to turn a 6 into an 8? Just add a matchstick! Want to flip a card over to change its value entirely? Go for it!
And here's the chaos kicker: if a player plays five cards of the same suit, a 'Revolution' occurs. Suddenly, the hierarchy is inverted—F becomes the lowest value and 0 becomes the highest. It's the kind of mayhem we live for! Once everyone passes, the round ends, cards are cleared, and the last player to play starts the next round. If you manage to empty your hand but still hold matchsticks, don't celebrate just yet: you'll have to discard one matchstick per turn until you're completely clear. It's fast, frantic, and perfect for quick sessions and constant twists.
