About the game

What you do in a play session

Ever imagined warrior cats facing off against Maori spirits to protect their nine lives? That’s the core of Mauwi, a fast-paced card game where luck and planning must go hand in hand. You take command of felines that, upon arriving in New Zealand, must prove their worth through attacks, defenses, and strategic hand management.

The main goal is to create combinations that add up to nine, forming what the game calls a 'Mauw'. Gameplay takes place across up to four locations (columns) where you deploy your warriors. The flow is dynamic: you can reinforce your ranks, attack opponents to steal cards, or play spirit cards (value zero) to block columns and hinder your rivals' progress. You must carefully manage your hand of four cards, always drawing to stay in the fight.

Mauwi is an evolution of the original 'Mauw', introducing new cards like the Kiwi, the Owl, and the Lizard, which add extra layers of strategy. The game ends as soon as someone completes three 'Mauws' in different columns. It’s a short, punchy game, perfect for a quick session or as an opener for a heavier game night, featuring charming art and mechanics that keep everyone on their toes until the very end. If you enjoy card games that allow for some 'table talk' and light sabotage while you build your own sets, Mauwi is a fantastic addition to your collection.
