In Mercado, each player becomes a wealthy citizen strolling through the market stalls at the table's center, hunting for luxurious items that boost reputation. The stalls are individual panels, each offering a unique product – from fine shawls to sparkling jewelry or golden trophies. Every participant has a personal bag filled with coins of various denominations. On your turn, you draw three coins blind and place them on any market tables you choose, trying to complete the exact coin set required for a product. When all necessary coins for an item are gathered, the buyer claims the good, earns reputation points, and sometimes receives extra bonuses like seals or privileges. Yet, some products hide counterfeit money that can end up back in a bag, sabotaging your plans. The game blends discreet auctions, pool‑building of coins, and a race to be the first to finish valuable purchases. With 30‑minute playtime, light rules (weight 1.8/5), and support for 2‑4 players, Mercado suits those who enjoy quick decisions, gentle competition, and a splash of Renaissance flavor. The visual appeal of the stalls and colorful coins brings the market to life, while the Action Retrieval mechanic lets you recycle strategies throughout the game. At the end, the player with the highest reputation – including end‑game bonuses – is crowned the city’s most influential merchant.
