Monstros & Tesouros is an independent Brazilian game, born from a passion for fantasy RPG campaigns and the desire to simplify that experience into a card and dice format. It transforms the essence of a traditional tabletop RPG, like D&D, into a non-collectible card game, where role-playing is replaced by the strategic management of a group of heroes. The game offers a highly customizable experience, with various optional rules that adjust difficulty and multiple game modes to keep the fun fresh.
In the main 'Adventure' mode, each player assembles a party of three unique heroes, chosen from a pool of 35, each with distinct abilities. Players take turns revealing Terrain cards, which present different enemies for their heroes to face. The cool part is that while one player controls their heroes, another takes command of the monsters, ensuring no one is idle, especially in two-player games. With 100 unique monsters to face, variety is immense.
During combat, hand management is crucial: players use action cards that depend on their heroes' and monsters' attributes. Dice come into play to resolve actions and determine round winners, adding that touch of luck and excitement. By defeating monsters, your heroes gain treasures (there are 100 unique treasure cards!) and experience, growing stronger and able to use even more powerful actions. The game continues until one player reaches a predefined goal. Besides 'Adventure', there's 'Arena' mode, a free-for-all combat between parties, 'Bestial Arena', where monsters face off, and a solo mode. With 400 cards, dice, and a rulebook in one box, it's a robust package for many hours of fun.
