About the game
What you do in a play session
Montego Bay is that logistics game that makes you feel like the captain of a bustling port full of barrels and ships. You start with two workers – a big one and a small one – each with a deck of 1‑to‑5 movement cards that dictate how many spaces they’ll move. The trick is deciding who moves first: a small scale board sets the order, but you can change it by buying Lazy Jack for three silver coins, who always starts the round.
Each turn, all players secretly reveal a card for each worker. The first worker moves the indicated number of spaces; if it lands on an occupied spot, it pushes the other worker to the opposite side of the warehouse. If that side is also occupied, the moving worker backs up to the first free space. After all moves, you check each warehouse: if your worker is at the door, you can grab barrels of your color (if available) and load them onto any of the four harbor ships.
Ships have limited capacity, but you can decide how to distribute the barrels. When a ship fills up or when the first ship in line is loaded, it leaves the harbor, and you earn points based on the majority of barrels aboard – the more you have, the more points. If there are broken barrels in the warehouse, you lose some of your barrels from the ship (except when using Lazy Jack). The game continues until the warehouse stack runs out or only three ships remain, at which point all remaining ships are scored.
Montego Bay blends movement strategy, anticipation of opponents’ actions, and quick decisions on where to place barrels. It’s a fast‑paced game with simple rules but deep decision‑making that makes each play unique. If you enjoy transport and logistics games, you’ll have a blast with this title.
