About the game
What you do in a play session
Mystery of the Abbey, or Mistério da Abadia, is that classic whodunit reminiscent of Clue, but with a French medieval twist that adds a unique charm. Three to six players enter a monastery full of corridors, cloisters, and secrets, each receiving cards describing monks from three orders, varying in fatness, hood, beard, and more. The goal? Identify the murdered monk before time runs out. The game blends area movement—players can move up to two spaces per turn—with strategic questioning: “How many fat monks do you have in your hand?” If someone refuses to answer, they can take a vow of silence, but this allows the questioner to ask a follow‑up. Every four turns a Mass occurs, bringing a surprise event and making players pass cards to their left neighbor, heightening the tension. Rooms have unique effects: in the cell you can grab a card from a neighbor, in the Cryptorum you earn an extra turn. Unlike Clue, a correct accusation doesn’t immediately win; you earn points for correct declarations and may lose for incorrect ones, so balancing information and risk is key. The deduction mechanic, combined with hand management, dice rolling, and random events, creates a suspenseful atmosphere that keeps everyone on edge. If you enjoy investigative games with a dark humor edge and a medieval setting, Mystery of the Abbey is a choice that will test your ability to read between the lines and maximize every clue.
