About the game

What you do in a play session

In Neta-Tanka, you lead a clan of the Frostrivers tribe, dwelling along the Great Frozen River. As the current leader reaches the twilight of his life, the tribe gathers to choose a successor. To prove your worth, you must demonstrate generosity and the ability to provide for your people during a sacred ceremony. The game shines through its worker placement system, but with a clever twist: the order of execution is just as vital as the placement itself. You place your workers on the board, but they are only resolved later in the turn order. This creates a fascinating strategic layer, as some actions rely on others being triggered first. For instance, if you want pelts, someone must have triggered the 'Hunt' action earlier. Interestingly, the leftovers from your actions can often benefit your opponents, making turn order management crucial. The game also rewards synergy; triggering linked actions on the board grants you powerful boosts or extra resources. Scoring is diverse, allowing you to focus on building tents, feeding your tribe, crafting objects, or raising totems to the deities. Even showing generosity to your opponents earns you points, adding a unique social dynamic to the competition. You must stay alert, as a poorly timed placement might leave your workers with nothing to do. With thematic artwork that pulls you into the tribal setting and gameplay that balances pure strategy with indirect interaction, Neta-Tanka rewards those who can anticipate the flow of actions. If you enjoy medium-weight games that aren't purely solitaire and force you to think about the 'if' and 'when' of every move, this is a fantastic addition to your collection. It’s a rewarding experience that demands both careful planning and a keen eye on your opponents' intentions.
