About the game
What you do in a play session
Yokohama Duel drops you into the late 19th‑century boom of Japan’s bustling port city. You and your opponent are ambitious merchants battling for control of copper, silk, tea and seafood markets. The board depicts Yokohama’s districts, each granting a distinct benefit: some provide resources, others let you build shops or commercial houses, and a few unlock foreign technologies. Each round gives both players four turns to place their assistants (workers) on spaces that haven’t been taken, securing the desired action. This worker placement blends with set collection, as you must gather specific combos of goods and buildings to fulfill prestige objectives. Beyond local resources, you can hire foreign agents – mercenaries that grant extra power at the cost of influence points. The game runs four rounds, keeping the playtime around 45 minutes while offering plenty of room for blocking and timing tactics. At the end, the player with the most prestige points – earned by meeting goals, owning shops, mastering technology and fulfilling orders – claims the title of Yokohama’s top trader. The rules are easy to pick up, but the two‑player duel creates real tension as you try to anticipate where your rival will place their next worker. Perfect for fans of quick economic games with a historic flavor and strong direct interaction.
