Oh Shiitake!

In Oh Shiitake!, you and your friends become foragers in a race to complete mushroom lifecycles. The goal is to be the first to finish three cycles, each composed of one card from each growth stage (Spore, Hyphae, Mycelium, and Fruiting Body) of one of the six real species featured in the game: Shiitake, Chanterelle, Reishi, Oyster, Lion's Mane, and Enoki. Wild cards are super useful, filling any gap in your sets, so keep an eye out for them!

Each card serves a dual purpose, which adds a really cool strategic layer. You can play it to activate its effect or stash it face-up in your 'nutrient shield' to use as currency. And here's the kicker: stashed cards pay debts at full value, while those in your hand are only worth half. This decision of what to bank and what to keep is the heart of the game, and it's where hand management truly shines.

Action cards allow you to interact with (or rather, 'hinder') your opponents in various ways: drain nutrients, lift a card from their shield, make them discard, or even outright steal a completed lifecycle! But not all is lost for those under attack: the 'Spore-ry, No!' card lets you cancel any action aimed at you, and 'Metabolize' allows you to burn a card or retrieve one from your own shield. Turns are quick: draw two cards, make up to three plays, and pass. The real tension arises when you have a complete set, as it remains visible and can be stolen until the very end. Deciding the right moment to 'commit' your cycles is crucial in this 20 to 30-minute game.
