About the game
What you do in a play session
Released in 1977 by Israel's Orda Industries, Orbito, also known as 'The Far Out Strategy Game,' invites players to a space race full of twists and turns. The board itself is a highlight, featuring a rotating central ring, several pegs to hold the spaceship pieces, and four colored 'space station' areas in each corner. Additionally, the game includes 16 plastic spaceships, four of each of the four colors, and a six-sided die to dictate the pace of the journey. The main objective is simple yet challenging: each player must move all their spaceships from their starting space station, across the launching track and the entire board, to the diagonally opposite station. In each turn, players roll the six-sided die, rotate the central ring of the board, and then move one of their ships the number of spaces indicated by the die. The first player to successfully get all their ships to the final destination wins the intergalactic race. Although a classic from decades past, Orbito is an interesting example of how a movable board mechanic can add an extra layer of unpredictability and strategy to an abstract game.
