About the game

What you do in a play session

Orléans Stories takes the bag‑building engine from Orléans and turns it into a multi‑era storytelling experience set in the Loire Valley. Instead of merely trading with villages around Orléans, you and the other players colonize the region, planting, producing, founding villages, and erecting forts and churches. Each era introduces different conditions – sometimes knights settle down and help you conquer foreign lands, other times plague threatens to wipe out your settlers unless someone develops medicine. The game offers two campaigns: "The First Kingdom", an epic eight‑era saga, and "The King's Favor", a shorter introductory path with five eras and mandatory tasks that, if unmet, can eliminate a player. This threat of early elimination creates constant tension, yet the tasks are achievable, so most players reach the final era. Era changes tweak parameters, rules and strategic options, making the board feel like a choose‑your‑own‑adventure book that rewrites itself each play. The story booklet provides era‑specific rules, preparation tips, and short narratives that immerse you without overwhelming. High‑quality components – cards, resource tokens, building pieces, and a modular board – deliver a pleasant tactile experience. With a 3.85/5 weight, the learning curve is moderate: seasoned gamers will enjoy the strategic depth, while newcomers might find the elimination aspect a bit daunting. In short, Orléans Stories blends bag building, resource management and occasional take‑that moments into a repeatable historical journey, without the permanent markings of a legacy game.
