About the game

What you do in a play session

In Overloaded Camels, your goal is to manage your caravan's weight while navigating a non-traditional trick-taking system. Forget standard fixed-suit rules; here, the game is all about knowing when to push your luck and when to hold back. While the 'must-follow' mechanic is present, the real twist lies in the ability to play cards face down—acting as a wild card with a value of 1—or stacking cards on the table to increase your total value for future tricks.

The challenge is that if you don't win the trick, you can leave your cards on the table and stack new ones on top, adding their values together. This is where the 'push your luck' element comes in: if the sum hits exactly 10, the trick’s dynamic shifts, involving all players regardless of the lead color. However, if your stack exceeds 11, your cards become invalid for that trick. The game demands strategy, as the more 'trade goods' (cards) you accumulate in your stack before winning, the higher your final score will be.

After 12 rounds, corresponding to the hand size, points are calculated based on your caravan's efficiency. The scoring system is progressive: carrying a single good yields few points, but successfully stacking ten or more items before securing a trick results in a massive point boost. It is a fast-paced, tense game that requires constant reading of your opponents' intentions. If you enjoy card games that blend a bit of calculation with that heart-pounding risk, Overloaded Camels is an excellent addition to your shelf, especially for those moments when time is short but you want something clever to play.
