Penny Press plunges players into the tumultuous world of yellow journalism at the end of the 19th century, where they take on the roles of press magnates like Pulitzer and Hearst, competing to dominate the newspaper market in New York. The goal is to increase your newspaper's circulation by publishing editions that cover the day's top news: War, Crime and Calamity, New York City, Politics, and the Human Condition. To do this, players must allocate their reporters to the most relevant stories, ensuring a majority in areas of interest. When ready, they 'roll the presses' to publish the news and assemble their front page. Each publication scores points based on the current value of the news, and the player with the most stars in each category receives endgame bonuses. The game ends when a player publishes their third or fourth newspaper (depending on the number of players), and the winner is the one who achieves the highest circulation.
