About the game

What you do in a play session

Prophecy, designed by Czech veteran Vladimír Chvátil, captures the spirit of Talisman while adding its own flavor. You command a fantasy hero traversing a point‑to‑point map of astral realms, hunting four of five hidden artifacts that crown the new ruler. Instead of simple dice‑based movement, the game supplies a range of transports—carriages, dragons, magical teleportation—giving you tactical choices for positioning. Each character features an experience system: defeating monsters, casting spells, or surviving random events grants points that can be spent on new abilities, spells, and attribute upgrades. However, casting a spell or losing a fight drains strength or willpower, so you must seek healing before pressing on. The board’s point‑to‑point layout creates strategic routes and planned confrontations. A plethora of monsters and unpredictable events test your resources and resilience. The win condition is to collect four artifacts before opponents and claim the throne. With 2‑5 players, games run about three hours, and a moderate weight (2.6/5) makes it accessible to both adventure newcomers and seasoned gamers. Expansions like Dragon Realm (2003) and Water Realm (2006) broaden the world, but the core already offers high replayability thanks to variable player powers and the progression system.
