About the game

What you do in a play session

In Ragusa, you step into the shoes of a magnate in the legendary city of Dubrovnik during the 15th century, tasked with rebuilding it and boosting its trade. The game invites you to expand the city by building houses on strategic spaces between three hexes. Each house acts like a worker, but with a twist: it activates three locations simultaneously, allowing you to gather resources from rural areas and perform actions within the city. The resources you collect in the countryside will be crucial for constructing new buildings, trading goods, and crafting valuable commodities. The value of these commodities fluctuates as ships arrive and depart from the harbor, adding a layer of speculation to your strategy. In the city, each action spot represents three available choices, offering a range of options to optimize your turn. Ragusa's core appeal lies in its engine-building aspect: as you expand your influence, you not only leverage your existing production spaces but can also reactivate other players' houses by building near them. This creates a dynamic cycle where everyone has opportunities for gains, even outside their own turn. The game concludes once all players have placed all their houses, and the player with the most points from various sources is crowned the master builder of Ragusa. It's a game that blends city building, economics, and worker placement in a compelling way, especially for those who enjoy strategic planning and watching their game engine grow.
