Goal of the Game

After a series of calamities that left civilization in ruins, the world's societies are being rebuilt in harmony with nature. In Rebirth, you take on the role of a clan leader competing for strategic control of prestigious lands and castles in Scotland or Ireland.

The objective is to accumulate the highest possible score through the strategic construction of Energy Farms, Food Farms, and Settlements, as well as completing Mission Cards, controlling Castles, and opening Ports (or Offshore Farms in Ireland mode).

Setup

Setup varies depending on the chosen scenario:

Scotland

  1. Place the Board (Scotland map) in the center of the table.
  2. Shuffle the Mission Cards deck and place it face down in the designated location.
  3. Each player chooses a color and places their Scoring Counter on the 0 space of the scoring track.
  4. Each player places their Clan Board, all of their Castles, and Cathedrals in front of them. Place the Scoring Achievement with the blank side up next to the Clan Board.
  5. With 2 to 4 players, place 32 Tiles of a color not in use face down on the spaces marked with the yellow hexagon icon.
  6. Each player collects all Tiles of their color.
  7. Each player places their Tiles face down in front of them and shuffles them.
  8. Each player draws 2 Tiles, looks at them privately, and places them face down on their Clan Board (these will not be used in the game, but can be consulted). The remaining Tiles in front of the player is their supply.
  9. Each player draws 1 Tile for their hand and looks at it privately.
  10. The player who last visited Scotland goes first. Play proceeds clockwise.

Ireland (Advanced Mode)

  1. Place the Board (Ireland map) in the center of the table.
  2. Shuffle the Public Mission Cards deck and create a row of 8 face-up cards above the board. The rest remain face down.
  3. Shuffle the Round Tower Bonus Tiles and place one randomly face up on each Round Tower space on the board.
  4. Each player chooses a color and places their Scoring Counter on 0.
  5. Each player places their Clan Board, Castles, and Cathedrals in front of them, along with the Scoring Achievement (blank side up) and their Doubling Marker on the Clan Board.
  6. With 2 to 4 players, place 24 Tiles of a color not in use face down on the spaces with the yellow hexagon icon.
  7. Each player collects their colored Tiles, shuffles them, and places them face down in front of them.
  8. Each player draws 4 Tiles, looks at them privately, shuffles them, and places them face down on the Clan Board. The rest is their supply.
  9. Each player draws 1 Tile for their hand. The player who last visited Ireland goes first.

Gameplay

The game follows a simple turn structure. On your turn, you are the active player and must perform 3 actions in the following order:

  1. Place the Tile: Place the Tile from your hand onto the board.
  2. Score the Tile: Calculate and score the points for the placed Tile.
  3. Draw 1 Tile: Draw 1 Tile from your supply into your hand.

The game ends when all players have placed all the Tiles from their supply onto the board.

Actions and How to Play

Tile Placement

You must place the Tile from your hand face up on an unoccupied hexagonal space that matches the Tile symbol (Energy Farm, Food Farm, or Settlement icons).

  • Energy Farm Tiles: Can be placed on Energy Farm spaces or blank spaces. If there are no Energy Farm or blank spaces, you may place them on a Food Farm space.
  • Food Farm Tiles: Can be placed on Food Farm spaces or blank spaces. If there are no Food Farm or blank spaces, you may place them on an Energy Farm space.
  • Settlement Tiles: Can only be placed on spaces with the Settlement icon. The number of icons on the Tile represents its Influence value.
  • Restrictions: It is not permitted to place Tiles on Cathedral, Castle, or water spaces.

Tile Scoring

  • Settlements:
    • Small Settlements: Scores the Influence value of the placed Tile.
    • Medium Settlements: When both spaces are occupied, the player with more Influence wins 5 points; the other wins 3. If one player occupies both, they win 8.
    • Large Settlements: When all 3 spaces are occupied, the player with more Influence wins 8 points; the second wins 5. If one player occupies all, they win 13.
  • Farms (Energy and Food): When placing a Tile, you score 1 point for each Tile in the cluster (contiguous group) of Tiles of the same color and type that you have just created or expanded.
  • Ports (Scotland) / Offshore Farms (Ireland): When placing a Settlement Tile on a Port or Offshore Farm space, you immediately score 1 point.
  • Cathedrals: When placing a Tile adjacent to a Cathedral space, you place one of your Cathedrals on that space (stacking if one is already there) and draw 1 Mission Card. You can only gain one card per Cathedral space.
  • Castles: You gain control of a Castle by occupying the largest number of spaces adjacent to it. If there is a tie in the number of Tiles, the tie-break goes to whoever has more adjacent Energy and Food Farm Tiles. If there is still a tie, the tie-break goes to the player performing the action.

Ireland Mode Specialties

  • Sprawling Settlements: These have 4 spaces. The first player to complete it wins 12 points, the second 8, and the third 5.
  • Public Mission Cards: Upon completing a mission, the first player to do so wins the higher value on the card. Other players who complete the same mission later win the lower value.
  • Round Towers: By occupying a space adjacent to a Round Tower, you can activate a specific bonus (e.g., draw more Tiles, gain points, or gain a Private Mission Card).

End of Game and Scoring

The game ends when all players have exhausted their supply of Tiles.

Final Scoring

Players sum points from:

  1. Incomplete Settlements: Uncompleted Settlements score as Small Settlements (based on the Influence value of the Tiles present).
  2. Castles: Each Castle controlled is worth 5 points.
  3. Mission Cards: Reveal the Mission Cards (private or public) and add the points if the condition was met.

Tie-breaking Criteria

  • Scotland: The winner is whoever controls Edinburgh Castle. If there is a tie, control of Stirling Castle decides.
  • Ireland: The winner is whoever controls Blarney Castle. If there is a tie, the player with the most spaces adjacent to the Hill of Tara wins. If the tie persists, the players share the victory.
