About the game

What you do in a play session

In Gnome Hollow, you step into the role of a gnome gardener, tasked with tending to rings of mushrooms and flowers in a secret garden. The goal is to be the cleverest gnome and harvest the most mushrooms by the end of the season. It's a game with a spatial element, blending tile placement with worker placement mechanics. On each turn, you'll place a tile in the garden and then move your gnome to perform an action. It sounds simple, but the combinations between these actions can be surprisingly satisfying!

The game revolves around expanding your garden by strategically placing tiles to form mushroom rings. Once a ring is completed, you harvest the mushrooms and can take them to the market to trade for shiny treasures like bottle caps, buttons, and feathers. Larger rings yield better rewards, and completing a new circle automatically increases your score on your personal player board. Some rewards unlock special spots for worker placement, turning your garden into a strategic hub.

Wildflowers add a touch of unpredictability: they can complete any ring or help resolve tricky situations. Collecting wildflower tokens becomes a valuable set collection strategy, especially as the game nears its end. At the Pinwheel Market, you can fulfill mushroom orders to earn these treasures, choosing whether to complete the top half of an order for a smaller treasure or the bottom half for a larger one. Some market cards also offer mushroom trades for later use.

Gnome Hollow combines the beauty of a growing garden with the thrill of strategic competition. It's an accessible game with stunning watercolor artwork, promising a relaxing experience yet offering tactical depth for those seeking an enjoyable challenge. Get ready to cultivate, harvest, and hoard treasures in this charming game for 2 to 4 players.
