Get ready for an intense 1871 showdown! Red Flag Over Paris plunges you into the heart of the Paris Commune, letting you command either the revolutionary Communards or the government forces from Versailles. It's a tense duel for control of Paris, but it's not just about military might. You'll need to win over the hearts and minds of the populace, sway public opinion, and secure military dominance. The board is split into political and military areas, each with its own dimensions like institutions, neighborhoods, and outer forts. The catch? You have limited resources and must decide where to invest: political influence to win over the people, or military strength to control territory. Each card represents a historical figure or event from the era, and you can use its power to place or remove influence, buy discarded cards from your opponent, or even build your own momentum. Speaking of momentum, the Versailles forces need to collaborate with the Prussians to restore order (yes, you read that right!), while the Communards must keep the revolution alive after months of siege and starvation. After up to three rounds, a Final Crisis erupts, where all your held-back cards come into play to determine who truly rules Paris. It's a quick game, but one that forces tough decisions, perfect for history buffs and strategy lovers.
