Ever wondered what it's like to be in a classic Scooby-Doo episode? In Haunted Hotel, you and your friends are hotel staff, but there's a twist: some of you are actually villains disguised as ghosts! The bad guys' goal is to sow chaos and scare everyone away to take over the hotel, while the staff tries to unmask the impostors with the help of the famous Mystery Inc.
The game revolves around hidden roles and a lot of bluffing. Each player starts with a secret identity and a hand of cards that can be clues, traps, Scooby Snacks, or the monsters themselves. The dynamics are tense: on your turn, you choose a Scooby-Doo gang member to perform an action. Some actions force cards on the table to be revealed. If a monster appears, the villains' victory marker advances. However, if clues are revealed, the Scooby gang gets closer to solving the mystery!
The real fun lies in the bluffing. Villains must plant seeds of doubt and make others suspect innocent players, while the staff tries to connect the dots and figure out who is lying. It's the kind of game where you look at your best friend and think, 'Are you the ghost?'. The match ends when a villain is finally uncovered or when one of the progress markers reaches the end of the track.
Beyond the base game, there are variations like the Mummy mode, where a character can be kidnapped, and the Scooby Loo expansion, which adds new ways to report the ghosts. It's a fast, light game, perfect for those who want the feeling of an investigation without needing a 50-page manual. If you enjoy social deduction and want something fun for family or friends on the weekend, this haunted hotel is the place to be!
