About the game

What you do in a play session

Welcome to Hollywood, 1947! The dream factory is buzzing, but there's a shadow of suspicion looming: communists are allegedly infiltrating studios, sneaking "un-Patriotic" messages, themes, props, and lines into movies. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to unmask these spies before the studio is shut down or you yourself are blacklisted from the industry. In Hollywood 1947, each player secretly takes on the role of a Patriot, a Communist, or a Rising Star. Each round, a unique job on the film set (like Screenwriter, Director, Actor, etc.) dictates the movie's direction for the day, influences the cards in everyone's hands, and can even reveal crucial information. Want to change your luck? Skip your job to re-roll any two dice. At the end of each round, players with stars showing on their dice get to add cards to the movie. These cards are shuffled, one is discarded, and the rest are revealed. The team with the majority of matching symbols (including those on the round's movie poster) wins the round! Mark the victory by placing your team's film strip over the movie poster. The first team to win 4 rounds wins the game. The Rising Star, however, plays both sides, aiming to push the game to 7 rounds and secure a tie. This is a social deduction game where your words are your greatest asset (or liability)! Don't show your cards, but feel free to talk about them and your allegiance – lying can be key to victory if you're a Communist or the Rising Star, as most players will be Patriots. The fun kicks in quickly, and the rules are a breeze to grasp. Cue the cameras, it's time to make movies, but be wary of who you trust!
