In Scripts and Scribes: The Dice Game, each player takes on the role of a medieval abbot competing to make his monastery's library the most prestigious in the land. The main goal is to amass gold, but to do that you must gather resources such as scrolls, manuscripts, pigments, quills and ink, which can be exchanged for money. The game is a dice‑based adaptation of the classic Biblios, keeping the theme of trading sacred texts while introducing rolls that dictate how many auctions occur and how many resources are available each round.

The board features five shifting categories – for instance, "Manuscripts" or "Pigments" – whose values change throughout the game, forcing players to constantly tweak their plans. When the dice call for it, an auction opens: you either bid resources to win gold, or bid gold to acquire needed resources. This auction mechanic combined with dice rolling creates opportunities for bluffing, as you may try to mislead opponents about the true value of an item.

Beyond auctions, there is a "push your luck" element: you can roll again to potentially gain more resources, but risk losing everything if the outcome is unfavorable. At the end, the player with the most gold – earned through smart purchases, successful auctions, and complete sets – wins. The game lasts about 30 minutes, supports 2‑5 players, and has a light learning curve, making it perfect for fans of dice, bidding and thematic set collection. While randomness is present, strategic choices and player interaction keep each session fresh and entertaining.
