Imagine the serenity of a sunny day at the beach: a light breeze, scattered seashells, and crabs hiding under rocks. Seaside translates this relaxing vibe into an abstract strategy game where you build your own coastal ecosystem using only wooden tokens. The goal is straightforward but competitive: the player with the highest stack of tokens at the end wins.
The core gameplay revolves around a drawstring bag. On your turn, you draw a token, look at it secretly, and choose which of the two sides to activate. Once decided, that side remains fixed for the rest of the game. This is where the tension kicks in: if you draw a blue design and cast it into the 'sea', you immediately get another turn! However, if you draw a white design and place it in your Seaside area, your turn ends. It's a classic 'should I push my luck one more time?' scenario.
The key to victory lies in the synergy between the ecosystem's elements. Sandpipers allow you to fetch Isopods; having more Beach tiles lets you collect more Shells; and Rocks are essential for gathering Crabs—even stealing one from another player if you place your second Rock. To add a layer of chaos, Waves can wash over your Beach tiles and flip them over, altering your setup. The game ends as soon as the bag is empty, and then you stack all your tokens to see who built the tallest tower. It's a fast-paced, tactile experience with just enough luck to keep everyone on edge with every draw.
