Get ready to navigate the turbulent waters of the Renaissance in Serenissima! Here, you and your merchant family aren't just looking to profit from trade, but also need to defend yourselves from piracy and, perhaps, engage in a little of it yourself. The goal is to build an agile fleet of ships to buy and sell goods across the Mediterranean, but don't forget to keep your vessels well-manned, as attacks and defenses are part of the routine. The rondel mechanic dictates the game's flow, where the order of your numbered galleys determines when you can act. Load, build, move your ships, fight, and conquer ports to accumulate wealth and victory points. Unlike the older version, where turn order was determined by auction, here the action is more fluid and tied to your fleet. Resource management has changed, with marble replacing gems and ports with wine offering a special end-game bonus. The new edition brings improvements that make the game more dynamic, with larger maritime areas and fewer ports, plus new options like the 'basilica' to expand your buildings and points. Combat has been revamped, and the dice have also got a new look. If you enjoy economic games with a touch of maritime adventure and strategy, Serenissima is a great choice for those who like a challenge with a historical flavor.
