About the game

What you do in a play session

In bustling Nottingham, the market is packed with goods from across the kingdom, but Prince John refuses any contraband on his streets. He tasks the sheriff – who, let’s be honest, has a soft spot for gold coins – with inspecting every bag. Each round, one player becomes the sheriff while the others act as merchants, packing their bags with a mix of legal and illegal items. The sheriff may choose to inspect any bag; catching contraband yields loot, but mistakenly accusing an honest merchant forces a fine. Merchants can bribe the sheriff, bluff about their cargo, or gamble on a high‑value haul. The game blends bluffing, negotiation, bribery, and set collection, all handled with vibrant cards and gold tokens. The 2nd Edition updates the rules, adds premium components (110 gold coins, 216 goods cards, sheriff and merchant standees) and optional modes like a 6th merchant, Black Market, and Sheriff’s Deputies. Supporting 3‑6 players, a typical play‑through lasts about an hour, and the light complexity (1.7/5 weight) welcomes both newcomers and veterans. Medieval humor and detailed artwork add extra charm, while the rotating‑role mechanic keeps everyone on edge, trying to spot lies and decide who’s worth a bribe. Perfect for groups that love chatty interaction, laughs, and a dash of controlled cheating.
