About the game
Imagine living on the Orkney Islands in Northern Scotland about five thousand years ago. In Skara Brae, you lead a resilient community of farmers and hunters fighting against the brutal winds and freezing winters. The most fascinating part? Instead of throwing away their trash, these people used shells, bones, and broken tools to build massive mounds of earth. Over generations, these 'midden piles' became the foundation for digging out rooms and tunnels, providing essential shelter from the elements.

In the game, your goal is to gather resources to feed, clothe, and house an ever-growing number of settlers. The core gameplay revolves around open drafting, where you strategically pick cards to optimize your actions. You'll deploy workers to furnish homes, cook, craft, clean, and trade. However, there's a catch: prosperity creates waste. As you develop your village, you'll generate more midden that must be cleaned up, or it will hinder your progress.

Skara Brae is all about efficiency and timing. You'll need to chain actions together to maximize your turns while managing the logistical pressure of a growing population. The game spans four rounds, and the player who best balances growth, resource management, and cleanliness takes the victory. If you enjoy management games with a historical twist and clever combo mechanics, Skara Brae is right up your alley. Get ready to dig through the debris and turn ancient waste into a thriving prehistoric settlement!
