About the game
What you do in a play session
In Sumatra, you embark on an expedition to document the natural and cultural richness of Indonesia's largest island. The goal is to create the best travel journal, recording discoveries ranging from imposing volcanoes to the lush rainforest, not forgetting the diversity of local animals, flowers, and cultures. The core mechanic revolves around a travel journal token that dictates available actions. Depending on your position relative to it, you can move to collect information, grab new 'available information' tiles for your journal, or advance the token, reorganizing tiles and revealing new discoveries. Collected tiles represent flora, fauna, inhabitants, villages, and expedition items. Each type has its scoring method: flora and fauna need pairs to score, villages depend on other items to be scored, and equipment is crucial for exploring risky areas like volcanoes. There are also collectible badges that grant bonus points for achieving certain tile collections or diversity of records. The interaction with the travel journal token creates a dynamic game where you need to manage your positioning to optimize information gathering and anticipate other explorers' moves. Whoever compiles the most valuable journal and conquers the badges wins!
