About the game
If you love the tension of betting everything on a risky expedition, Lost Cities: The Board Game is right up your alley. Unlike the famous card game, this version features a board, meeples, and more robust dynamics, though Reiner Knizia's core design remains: the balance between ambition and caution. You play as an explorer trying to navigate stone paths to find ancient monuments. To advance, you play numbered cards from 0 to 10, but there's a crucial catch: cards must be played in ascending order. Starting with a number too high limits your future options; starting too low might let your opponents outpace you.

The strategy revolves around deciding which of the five paths to invest in. Trying to tackle everything is a recipe for disaster, as advancing only a few steps on a path results in negative points. The secret is to focus on a few routes and push them as far as possible. Along the way, you'll encounter bonus tokens, such as gold coins or wish stones, which help mitigate losses at the end of the game.

An interesting point is its relationship with 'Keltis'. While they are nearly siblings, Lost Cities presents Knizia's original vision, featuring three rounds of play and a final scoring based on the monuments collected. While Keltis is more immediate, Lost Cities requires long-term planning. The game ends when five pieces reach the seventh space or beyond, triggering the final tally. Those who managed their hand well and didn't leave expeditions unfinished will emerge victorious. It's an elegant 'push your luck' game where simple math hides deep layers of interaction and tension.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it very different from the Lost Cities card game?
Yes! This one has a board, meeples, and lasts longer, but the logic of playing numbers in order to advance is the same.
How complex is the game?
Easy to learn, hard to master. The rules are simple, but the strategy of when to discard or play is deep.
How many people can play?
2 to 4 players. It works great as a duel, but with 4, the competition for paths becomes more intense.
How long does a game last?
Between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how much the players like to overthink their moves.
Is the game language dependent?
No. Almost everything is based on numbers and symbols, so you can play any version without issues.
