If you love those small-box games you can whip up anywhere, get your appetite ready! Sushizock im Gockelwok is a quick gem from Zoch's signature line, feeling a bit like Reiner Knizia's style but with that chaotic twist we all love. The goal is simple yet tricky: roll five dice to try and grab the best sushi tiles while avoiding those pesky fishbones that nobody wants.
The gameplay revolves around collecting sushi tiles (the blue ones, which grant points) and avoiding fishbone tiles (the red ones, which subtract points). Each die features sushi, fishbones, and the crucial chopsticks! If luck is on your side and you roll multiple chopsticks, you can play a little dirty and steal tiles from your friends. But watch out: rolling three chopsticks lets you take the top tile from an opponent's pile, while rolling four or five lets you nominate a specific tile—just no peeking allowed!
The real tension hits during the scoring phase. Once the tiles are gone, it's time to count. Here's the catch: if you've collected a lot of blue sushi tiles but also picked up many red fishbones, you'll have to discard your blue tiles first to offset the loss. It's a game of risk, memory, and, of course, dice luck. It's perfect for a quick filler between heavier games or a fast-paced game night with friends. Grab your chopsticks and good luck!
