About the game
What you do in a play session
Check out this demo of 51st State, folks! It's a free promotional version that throws you right into a post-collapse future where the world we know has turned to dust. No government, no army, just a bunch of factions wanting to rule the roost and build a new country, the so-called 51st State. Unlike the full version with its 110 cards, this demo comes with 40 cards that already give you a taste of what the complete game offers.
Here, you and one other friend will command one of these powers – like New York or the Mutants Union – and the mission is clear: build your own country. The game calls on you to put new locations on the table, recruit leaders, and send your people to work in buildings to secure resources and new skills. The clever part is that each card has three ways to be used: it can be a quick invasion to grab a bunch of resources at once, a contract to give you some income every turn, or an attachment for you to use that location's special ability. There are many decisions to make with few cards, which makes the game quite strategic. This version appeared in issue 25 of the Polish magazine Świat Gier Planszowych, so it's a gem for those who enjoy the 51st State universe or want to try out the mechanics before diving into the full game. It's pure hand management and variable player powers, all in a compact and straightforward package.
