In Targi, you step into the shoes of a Tuareg tribal leader, the Targi, immersing yourself in a unique culture where men cover their faces and women lead the household. Your mission is to expand your tribe's influence by trading valuable goods like dates, salt, and pepper to accumulate gold and other benefits. The game unfolds on a modular 5x5 board, featuring 16 action spaces on the border and 9 central spaces for goods and tribe cards. Each round brings new offerings, and knowing where to position your meeples is key. You and your opponent take turns placing your meeples on the border spaces, but with a twist: you cannot use an already occupied space or one directly opposite an opponent's meeple. This creates a tactical chess-like dynamic of positioning, where every choice matters. Once all meeples are placed, actions are executed. Border meeples activate specific actions, but the real magic happens in the center: you collect cards that align with the rows and columns of your border meeples. The main goal is to collect and play tribe cards, which not only grant advantages during the game but also crucial victory points at the end. These cards have a cost in goods, which you obtain from border spaces or other cards. You can hold one card in hand, but playing or discarding it requires a special action. Your display of tribe cards is built in three rows of four, and once placed, they cannot be moved. Final scoring is a combination of individual victory points from each card and bonuses for completing rows with cards of the same type or distinct types. The player with the most victory points at the end wins!
