About the game

What you do in a play session

Task Force: Carrier Battles in the Pacific is a wargame that recreates the Pacific naval operations of World War II while staying friendly to newcomers. The box includes a rulebook, a scenario book and four mounted maps, plus over 500 counters representing ships, aircraft and land units. Eight historical scenarios – from Pearl Harbor to Midway – are arranged in increasing difficulty, allowing players with no wargame background to learn gradually. Each scenario has clear objectives, such as sinking the enemy fleet or protecting a carrier, and the rules are streamlined: movement on a hex grid, air and naval combat resolved with two six‑sided dice. The design emphasizes fleet positioning and air‑resource management, offering light hand‑management that still feels strategic. Components are solid, with 30 × 15 mm ship counters, 15 mm square unit counters, aid cards and fleet formation sheets. Play time ranges widely – about 30 minutes for introductory scenarios up to five hours for the epic battles – and the game supports 1‑2 players, with a simple solo AI option. While the early scenarios may feel a bit easy for veteran wargamers, the later ones require a decent grasp of the mechanics. Overall, Task Force provides an immersive Pacific naval combat experience, perfect for those who want to dip their toes into wargaming without drowning in endless rules.
