About the game
What you do in a play session
If you've ever felt the adrenaline of facing a massive wave, Tavarua will take you straight into the swell! In this surfing competition for up to 6 players, you step into the role of a pro surfer aiming for the Grand Champion trophy. The gameplay is fast-paced and highly engaging: each round, waves advance toward the shore, and you must act quickly to avoid being left behind. The game flows through short rounds where everyone plays simultaneously, keeping the momentum high and ensuring no one is stuck waiting for their turn.
Strategy begins with choosing your board and paddling out. You'll need to navigate the channel to find the perfect wave, but just getting there isn't enough; the real challenge is balance. When selecting your cards, you must manage not only your movement but also your surfer's stability. Want to score big? Play high-numbered cards, but watch out: this will shift your balance drastically! If you lose control and slip off the board's axis, get ready for a total wipeout.
Winning isn't just about surfing well; it's about knowing which waves are worth keeping. Since you can only keep your top two scores for each board type, risk management is constant. You'll have to decide: do I risk a daring maneuver for huge points, or do I play it safe to ensure I don't wipe out? With the 'push your luck' mechanic, every decision could be your triumph or your biggest wipeout in the water. If you enjoy fast, thematically rich games with that 'can I pull this off?' tension, Tavarua is your next must-play destination!
