About the game

What you do in a play session

Picture yourself and your crew aboard a sci‑fi spaceship, with the captain dying in the final minutes of the episode. You must rally the team, keep the ship’s systems running, and fend off an alien threat that’s trying to blow everything up. The Captain Is Dead is a cooperative game for 2 to 7 players that puts each crew member in a unique role, demanding that everyone work together to reactivate the ship’s engines—known as the "Jump Core"—before time runs out. The Action Points mechanic lets each player perform a limited number of actions per turn, while Area Movement helps coordinate rapid actions across different ship sectors. Hand Management and Open Drafting add strategic depth: you must decide which cards to use, which to discard, and at the same time compete with others for the best available hand. Variable Player Powers give each character distinct abilities that can swing the tide of battle. The components include standees representing ship systems, making the visual experience more immersive. Though cooperative, the constant pressure from alien attacks creates tension and forces you to prioritize: keep systems online, attack enemies, or move toward the final objective. If you love sci‑fi games with intense action and strategic teamwork, The Captain Is Dead will keep you glued to the table, but remember that time management and moderate complexity may require patience and good communication among players.
