About the game

What you do in a play session

Prepare for a medieval duel fit for kings in The Duke! This abstract strategy game puts you in command of an army where every move counts and each piece has a dual purpose. The brilliant twist here lies in the wooden pieces, which are double-sided: each side shows a different posture, indicating how the piece can move or attack that turn. Flip the piece? Change the play! It's like having a deck of tricks for each unit. You can advance, jump, slide, or even use a special strike, all depending on how the piece is oriented. The goal is simple: capture your opponent's Duke. To achieve this, you need to maneuver your troops intelligently, defending your own while advancing to attack. If you end your move on the same square as the enemy Duke, it's checkmate! The game begins with the Duke and a few pawns, but each turn you can choose to either move an existing piece or draw a new one from the bag, adding an element of surprise and variety. With 15 different troop types and many possible combinations, replayability is immense. And if you crave more excitement, terrain tiles can shake up the board and alter the game's rules, or perhaps you'll venture into the Dark Rider mode, where a lone knight faces a battalion of spearmen. The Duke is fast-paced, tactical, and full of twists, perfect for those who enjoy a good abstract challenge with a thematic touch.
