The Hero City brings to life the desperate battles that took place between September 1943 and April 1944 in the Army Group North sector of the Russian front. The focus is on securing the rail link to Leningrad, driving Axis forces out of the Leningrad Oblast, and pushing into the Baltic States. The game depicts the Panther defensive line that the Germans tried to hold while the Soviets massed troops to break the bulwark. It also includes the Finnish line, offering a different strategic opportunity and even a scenario on the Soviet summer 1944 offensive into Karelia. The board covers the Oblasts of Leningrad, Novgorod, and Pskov, as well as Estonia, Latvia, and northern Lithuania, extending to the Baltic Sea coast. Players command armies, moving pieces on a hexagonal grid and facing enemy zones of control. Dice rolling determines combat outcomes, while front statuses of offensive or regrouping reflect Soviet operational warfare. The game can be played solo or in combination with The Forgotten Battles, creating a campaign experience from September 1943 to January 1944. Ideal for those who love war simulation, deep strategy, and high-tension historical scenarios.
